First Friday Makeover
Founded by Central Illinois Artists Organization (CIAO) in 2011, First Fridays quickly became one of Peoria’s most popular arts events, with local artists banding together to open their studios to the public on the first Friday of each month. In fact, the initiative has been so successful that it has outgrown its roots within a single volunteer group. CIAO no longer leads the First Friday effort, but instead has been integrated into the Contemporary Art Center (CAC) as its artist membership group.
As part of a rebranding effort, First Friday received a logo makeover via lettering artist Chelsie Tamms. The new logo was officially introduced on May 30th. “A consistent marketing approach will help everyone,” notes CAC executive director William Butler. “If everyone uses the same logo… it will strengthen the brand and help our audience perceive the connection between individual artists’ studios, businesses and venues.”
First Friday is intended to be an all-inclusive event—easy for anyone to join in and participate. To learn more, visit peoriafirstfriday.com. PM
